The Speech and Debate Program teaches the fundamentals of public speaking and argumentation, critical thinking, research and expository writing. These skills will help students build a strong foundation for inter-person interaction and communication. Debate students leave the camp with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to excel in life.
Karina M. is former head coach of Harker's Debate/Speech. She has years of debating and speech coaching experience and led the Harker debating team to many wins at different competitions.
Our Speech program will teach the invaluable skills of public speaking. Students will build their presentation skills and confidence in a safe environment while receiving individual feedback. Students will learn tips to battle communication apprehension and leave the workshop with significant practice speaking in front of a group. The skills learned in this program will help students looking to improve their presentation skills as well as participate in competitive speech events.

Our Debate program will teach students the foundation and comfort engaging in a debate round. Students will learn the key components of an argument, how to defend their ideas when they are being challenged, and how to effectively persuade the audience. Students will build their debate skills in a collaborative environment while receiving individual feedback on their debates throughout the workshop. The skills learned in this program will help students looking to improve their persuasive and critical thinking skills as well as participate in competitive debate events.
